Documentation & Operational Resources.

I've lost count of the number of times I've heard someone say, "That's just how we've always done it." Which is absolutely fine, until the person who knows how it's always been done goes on holiday. Having a few things written down properly can save an awful lot of headaches.

WHAT I DO

What this involves.

Having clear procedures and useful resources in place makes everyone's job easier, particularly when you're training new starters, handing responsibilities over to managers or trying to maintain consistency across a team.

I work with you to understand how your business operates and develop resources that fit the way you actually do things. That might mean creating opening and closing checklists, writing standard operating procedures, developing training materials or putting together tools to make everyday tasks easier.

These resources are often included as part of the wider work I do with a venue, but they're also available as standalone projects. Sometimes you already know exactly what you need and simply haven't had the time to sit down and put it together.

AREAS COVERED

What we can work on.

  • Standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Staff training manuals & resources
  • Stock management & control systems
  • Management handover & reporting tools
  • Health, safety & compliance procedures
  • Operational guides & process documentation

EXPERIENCE

Useful beats impressive.

I've written and used an awful lot of operational documents throughout my hospitality career, and I've learned that the best ones aren't necessarily the longest or most detailed. A checklist that someone can actually follow during a busy shift is far more useful than a beautifully formatted document that nobody ever opens. The same applies to training resources, management guides and procedures. They need to be clear, accessible and practical for the people using them. Having spent years managing venues and training teams myself, I know how important it is to get that balance right. I'd much rather see a checklist covered in scribbled notes from daily use than a pristine folder of documents nobody ever opens.
